Adjectives

 

1. Occur in 1st/2nd & 3rd declensions

2. Declined the same way as nouns

3. Occur in all 3 genders

4. Must agree in gender case & number with the nouns they are modifying

5. Do not have to be in the same declension as the nouns being modified

6. usually follow the noun being modified (eg – servi fatui sub arbore sedent ubi Davus eos exspectat.)

7. Can be made into adverbs by adding –e or –iter

8. can be made from the 4th principle part of verbs

 

For instance, when adding an adjective to modify puella, you can choose either a 1st or 3rd declension noun.  The resulting declension charts will look like this:

NB- in 3rd declension, adjectives end with an –i in both the dative and ablative singular, unlike regular 3rd declension nouns; otherwise, adjectives are declined the same way as nouns.
